Call to Action for Peachtree Creek Greenway

Community Affairs Peachtree Creek Greenway

Call to Action

What: DeKalb County Commissioner’s Rezoning Meeting

When: Tuesday, January 23, 2018 6:30 PM

Where: Manuel Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur, GA 30030

Why: The first item on the agenda for this meeting is the request for a Special Land Use Permit (SLUP) for the property known as the Presidential Tower.  This property is located just ITP from our neighborhood on Presidential Parkway (also accessible via Buckeye Road from Chamblee Tucker Road).  The developer, Dean Peacock, is asking for permission to convert this property into a senior living center.  Redevelopment of this property and the hopes of increased development of the area will be beneficial to our area even though it is not located in or directly adjacent to our neighborhood.

But, more importantly, the folks from the Peachtree Creek Greenway have been in discussions with him about developing a multi-use trail on the property that could connect to the Greenway and enable us to connect via the tunnels under Spaghetti Junction that would link the area to the Silverbacks property and Northcrest Road.  This is a GREAT opportunity for our neighborhood and could lead to us eventually being connected to the Beltline via the Greenway.  Imagine being able to walk or bike from Northcrest to the Beltline!!

If you are interested in this and available to come to the meeting, please plan to do so.  The Greenway group is requesting that we get there early since this is the first item on the agenda and they are requesting that we wear green shirts to show solidarity and our support.  Please plan to arrive by 6:00 PM and meet the group in the back of the room. Thanks!!
