Introduction to the Neighborhood Safety Committee

Community Safety

As some of you may be aware, there have been times in the past when Northcrest has had a Neighborhood Watch program. Usually this is spurred by a small wave of break-ins in the neighborhood, and as we become aware of the criminal activity a group of us will assemble and formalize the Neighborhood Safety Committee.

I've been a member of the last three Neighborhood Watch efforts - generally what happens is that there is a lot of interest when crimes are being committed, but due both to our own vigilance and the efforts of our local police, the culprit(s) is/are caught and after a short time the Watch tends to dissolve (a bit like the Watchers on the Wall if you're a Game of Thrones fan!). It's my opinion that we need to be a bit more persistent than previously and have an active Neighborhood Safety program, so I've started this column as part of the Northcrest Civic Association.

The discussion will be maintained on Nextdoor in a specific Northcrest Neighborhood Watch Group.

I'm looking forward to the discussion!
